Why we picked Giant Schnauzers
The Giant Schnauzer is a loyal, intelligent, and versatile working breed originally developed in Germany to drive cattle and guard farms. Known for their striking appearance, confident nature, and distinctive beard and eyebrows, Giant Schnauzers are highly trainable and thrive when given a job to do. They form strong bonds with their families and are naturally protective, making them excellent companions and watchdogs. As an active and driven breed, they require regular exercise, mental stimulation, and consistent training to reach their full potential. With proper socialization and guidance, the Giant Schnauzer is a devoted family member, capable working partner, and lifelong companion - an asset to your family!
We have been researching and learning about the Giant Schnauzer breed since 2018. As former Doberman owners and breeders, we were searching for a breed that possessed many of the qualities we loved—intelligence, loyalty, athleticism, and versatility—while also being a better fit for our family's allergy concerns. That's when we discovered the Giant Schnauzer, and it quickly became clear that this remarkable breed embodied everything we were looking for.
While no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic, the Giant Schnauzer's low-shedding, wiry coat can make them a suitable choice for many individuals with mild dog allergies. Combined with their strong working heritage, trainability, and devotion to their families, they offer a unique balance of companionship and capability that is difficult to find in many breeds.
Another factor that influenced our decision was the breed's overall health and longevity. While every breed has health considerations that responsible breeders must carefully monitor, we appreciated the Giant Schnauzer's generally robust nature and stable working temperament. Their confidence, intelligence, and versatility allow them to excel as active family companions, performance dogs, and loyal protectors.
What ultimately captured our hearts was the Giant Schnauzer's incredible balance of strength and sensitivity. They are powerful and capable working dogs, yet deeply devoted to their families and happiest when included in everyday life. Our admiration for this breed has only continued to grow over the years, and we are proud to share our passion for the Giant Schnauzer with others. Please note these are Velcro breeds. They will want to be close to their humans.. if that's in the bathroom guarding the door or then just touching your leg with the their booty while you write about them lol.. they love their people!
Is the Giant Schnauzer right for you?
While we absolutely adore the Giant Schnauzer, we are also honest in saying that this breed is not the right fit for every household. Giant Schnauzers are intelligent, driven, and energetic working dogs that require consistent training, structure, and daily mental and physical stimulation. They thrive when given a job to do and can become frustrated or develop undesirable behaviors when their needs are not met. This is not a breed that is content spending most of its day alone in the backyard or on the couch. Giant Schnauzers need to be an active part of their family's life and benefit from owners who are committed to training, socialization, and ongoing enrichment. Their intelligence can be both a blessing and a challenge, as they are capable of learning quickly—but they are equally capable of outsmarting an unprepared owner. If you are looking for a low-maintenance, easygoing dog that requires minimal exercise or training, the Giant Schnauzer may not be the breed for you. However, for the right family, they are incredibly loyal, devoted, and rewarding companions who will form deep bonds with their people and enthusiastically participate in every aspect of daily life.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions about whether the Giant Schnauzer is the right breed for your family and lifestyle. As a family of six, we understand the importance of raising well-rounded dogs that can thrive in a busy household. We are able to provide our dogs with a fulfilling and rewarding life through daily enrichment, training, exercise, and by including them in our everyday activities.
Giant Schnauzers are often referred to as "velcro dogs" because they form exceptionally strong bonds with their families and genuinely want to be involved in everything you do. They thrive on companionship and are happiest when they are considered part of the family rather than simply a pet. For the right home, their loyalty, devotion, and desire to be close to their people are some of the breed's most endearing qualities. They will always be the happiest with their people.
About the Breeders
Hi! My name is Kayla Stone, and I am the breeder behind Stone Giant Schnauzers.
I am a mother of four and have been with my partner for nearly 10 years. He is my biggest supporter and plays an important role in our breeding program.
My passion for dogs began when I welcomed my Dobermans, Theia and Knox, into my life. Since then, dogs have become a huge part of who I am. I own a grooming business and have completed a canine nutrition certification through CASI. From grooming and nutrition to breeding and puppy development, everything dog-related is something I truly enjoy.
I had always dreamed of owning Giant Schnauzers, and because of allergies within our household, I began searching for a breed that was both suitable for our family and possessed the intelligence, loyalty, and versatility I admired. Giant Schnauzers quickly became the perfect fit.
I have been breeding dogs for over nine years and continue to learn with every litter. From breeding and whelping to raising puppies and supporting families through the go-home process, I put my whole heart into what I do. My goal is to raise healthy, well-socialized puppies and provide lifelong support to the families who welcome them into their homes.
